Bernd Blöbaum

Bernd Blöbaum (* 1957 in Herford ) is a German communications and media scientist .

Scientific career

After graduating from high school, Blöbaum studied sociology , journalism and political science at the Ruhr University Bochum and the Free University of Berlin from 1976 to 1982 . He then did a journalistic traineeship at Neue Westfälische in Bielefeld and worked there as a sports editor for several years .

From 1987 Blöbaum worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Journalism at the University of Dortmund . There he initiated the first German campus newspaper Indopendent in 1990 as a practical media project for students at the institute and was editor of it for many years . In 1994 he completed his doctorate and in 1998 his habilitation in Dortmund .

After substitute professorships at the University of Hamburg (1998/99) and the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg (1999–2001), Blöbaum was appointed professor of communication science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 2001 . The focus of his academic work lies in the areas of media theory and practice, journalism and media usage research as well as "journalism and trust" .

In 2015 Blöbaum was Senior Fellow at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald .
