Bernd Braun (diplomat)

Bernd Braun (* 1946 in Berlin ) is a German diplomat and was ambassador to Malta from 2009 to 2011 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Braun studied law at the Free University of Berlin and the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen between 1966 and 1971 and passed his first state examination in 1971 . He then did his preparatory work in Berlin and Strasbourg between 1972 and 1975 and passed his second state examination in 1975 , whereupon he completed the École nationale d'administration (ENA) in Strasbourg by 1976 . He then worked as a lawyer in Berlin before joining the Foreign Service in 1977 .

After completing his preparatory service and passing the career test, he was initially employed at the Embassy in Sudan between 1980 and 1983 and then until 1987 at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City . After a subsequent assignment in the Foreign Office , he worked at the Embassy in Hungary from 1989 to 1991 and then again at the Foreign Office.

This was followed from 1994 to 1998 as a permanent representative at the embassy in Ukraine and then until 1999 as ambassador and head of the Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Estonia . After returning to Berlin, he was Head of Division for the Caucasus and Central Asia region in the Foreign Office until 2003 and then first Ambassador in Kenya and then from 2006 to 2008 Consul General in Saint Petersburg .

In 2008 he worked for the Science and Politics Foundation in Berlin and then in 2009 he took part in the security seminar of the Federal Academy for Security Policy in Berlin-Niederschönhausen .

In July 2009, Bernd Braun became Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Malta , before being replaced by Hubert Ziegler in 2011 .
