Bernd Grabensee

Bernd Grabensee (born July 23, 1939 in Düsseldorf ; † May 14, 2017 ) was a German physician and nephrologist .

Life

Bernd Grabensee studied medicine from 1959 to 1964 at the universities of Tübingen, Mainz, Vienna, Innsbruck and Düsseldorf. In 1965 he received his doctorate in medicine and worked at various hospitals. After completing his military service as a medical officer, he was a research assistant to Franz Grosse-Brockhoff at the Düsseldorf University Hospital .

In 1974 he completed his habilitation with a paper on experimental and clinical results of extracorporeal poison elimination. Grabensee was then senior physician in internal medicine and later director of the medical clinic A. In 1975 he was appointed adjunct professor. In 1976 he was appointed full professor at the University of Düsseldorf and in 1986 became director of the Clinic for Nephrology at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . In addition, from 1983 he headed the emergency department of the Center for Internal Medicine and Neurology. In 1996 he became director of the extended clinic for nephrology and rheumatology. From 1998 to 2005 he was Managing Director of the Center for Internal Medicine and Neurology. He was the head of the Transplant Center in Düsseldorf. In 2007 he retired. He then worked as an internist, nephrologist, hypertensiologist and intensive care and emergency physician in Düsseldorf.

Grabensee was chairman of the German Society for Internal Intensive Care Medicine from 1992 to 2002. He was also chairman of the Rhenish-Westphalian Society for Internal Medicine and the German Society for Nephrology .

The main focus of his work was the field of nephrology, kidney transplantation and all extracorporeal procedures, immunological systemic diseases and acute and emergency medicine. He has published over 400 scientific papers. Together with Danilo Filser and Hermann Haller , he was the editor of the specialist journal Der Nephrologe .

Bernd Grabensee had been a member of the Catholic student association AV Guestfalia Tübingen in the CV since 1959 .
