Bernd Homann

Bernd Homann (* 1964 in Edemissen near Peine ) is a German pianist and composer .

Life

Homann began playing the piano at the age of five and became interested in jazz at the age of 13 , initially focusing on ragtime and boogie .

After graduating from school, he began studying jazz, rock and pop teaching at the Hanover University of Music and Theater in 1986 , which he completed in 1990 with a diploma. In the following years he founded the Bernd Homann Quartet and, together with the members of his quartet and as a soloist in various disciplines, has been one of the winners of competitions since 1992, for example at the Jazz Podium Niedersachsen or the Jazz Youth Festival in Leipzig . In 1996 he was awarded the Culture Prize of the Ministry of Culture of Lower Saxony . In 1998 Homann was the fourth prize winner at the international piano competition Concours internationaux de la Ville de Paris - 2nd Concours de Piano-Jazz / Martial Solal for jazz piano .

In 1999 the Bernd Homann Quartet in Hamburg at the Deichtorhallen , committed as a preliminary program for a concert by Herbie Hancock - attracted national attention. In 2000 Homann formed a supporting program for events of the Goethe Institute in Latvia and Lithuania , later also to Denmark , France and the Ukraine , solo and with the quartet named after him with concert tours .

At Expo 2000 , Homann and his quartet performed Morgenstern as part of the cultural kaleidoscope Hannover event series . In 2003 he presented a duo album with saxophonist Anselm Simon.

Since 2000, Homann has been teaching piano at the University of Music and Theater in Hanover in the popular music and jazz course.
