Bernd Kappenstein

Bernd Kappenstein (* 1955 ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was Lord Mayor of Schwetzingen from 1999 to 2007 .

He grew up in Friolzheim . After leaving school, he completed an advanced training course at the Kehl University of Applied Sciences and in the Pforzheim city ​​administration . In 1977 he graduated as the best in his class in public finance. After that, Kappenstein was head of the main office in Forst and head of the main office and economic development in Ubstadt-Weiher .

In 1985, Kappenstein joined the CDU and ran for the office of mayor in Nussloch the following year , but was unable to assert himself there. He then went to Schwetzingen in 1990, where he was elected as an alderman. After the previous Lord Mayor Gerhard Stratthaus became Minister of Finance of Baden-Württemberg in 1998 , Kappenstein ran for his successor. In January 1999 he won the first ballot with 50.8 percent and became Lord Mayor of the major district town. However, Kappenstein only served one term. In the 2006 election he surprisingly lost 57 votes to Bernd Junker .

Kappenstein then worked for MVV Energie until he moved to the Rhein-Neckar GmbH metropolitan region in 2009 . Politics he remained loyal volunteer, he was again in the 2009 district council of the Rhein-Neckar district selected.

Kappenstein has six siblings. His brother Jürgen was elected mayor of Schwetzingen's neighboring municipality of Ketsch in 2006.
