Bernd Rudow

Bernd Rudow (born December 31, 1947 in Wittenberge ) is a German psychologist and ergonomist .

Life

After graduating from the Extended Oberschule Wittenberge (today Marie-Curie-Gymnasium ) in 1966 , Bernd Rudow began studying psychology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , which he graduated in 1972 with a degree in psychology with a focus on industrial and engineering psychology. Subsequently, Bernd Rudow taught and researched until 1976 at the German University for Physical Culture Leipzig (DHfK) on topics of sport psychology , especially game intelligence and aptitude diagnostics .

At the University of Leipzig , Institute for Occupational Medicine , Bernd Rudow began research on stress in 1976, which in the following years was carried out on stress, strain and health research in several professions (teachers, educators, social workers, tram and bus drivers, assembly workers, etc.) was expanded.

In 1981 he went to the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR in Berlin . Up until 1988, he was primarily involved in pedagogical and medical research with the subject of "Teacher activity and teacher health".

In 1980 Bernd Rudow was awarded a PhD at the Technical University of Dresden , Labor Science Section. rer. nat. PhD. 1986 followed the B-doctorate (corresponded to the habilitation) at the University of Leipzig, section psychology. In 1988 he was appointed professor for educational psychology at the University of Leipzig .

After fleeing the GDR in May 1988, Bernd Rudow started working at the University of Mannheim . Here, in 1990, the rehabilitation and the appointment as a private lecturer in psychology took place. This was followed by activities as a visiting professor, research assistant or lecturer at the Universities of Koblenz-Landau, Bonn, Heidelberg, Augsburg and Zurich (Switzerland) and Tampa (USA).

In 1995, Bernd Rudow accepted the call to a C3 professorship for work sciences at the Merseburg University of Applied Sciences (retirement 2013). Since then he has mainly been active in applied research. Here he cooperated with numerous companies and organizations, e. E.g. with Flughafen Frankfurt AG ( Fraport ), MVV Mannheim AG, trade union education and science , health insurance companies (DAK, TK ) Adam Opel AG and with Volkswagen AG .

The M4 Institute (Human-Machine-Medium-Management), which he headed from 2003 to 2012, emerged from the longstanding cooperation with Volkswagen AG. In addition, Bernd Rudow founded the Institute for Health and Organizational Management (short: IGO Prof. Dr. Rudow) in Mannheim in 1992. He is the director here to this day. In addition, he is currently working as a lecturer at several universities.

Focus

The teaching areas include work sciences, behavioral sciences for engineers and business administrators, business psychology for business economists, work and engineering psychology for industrial engineers, work and organizational management, education management and empirical research methods for daycare managers. He also leads seminars or workshops on stress and burnout management, occupational safety, communication, rhetoric and presentation, conflict management as well as bullying and addiction problems in the company.

During the implementation of the interdisciplinary projects he mainly worked with the TU Chemnitz (ergonomics, factory planning), the University of Oldenburg (health psychology), the University of Kassel (business informatics), the Humboldt University of Berlin (engineering psychology) and the University of Münster (educational sciences) together.

Bernd Rudow is currently in charge of the following research projects:

  • Occupational health and safety and mental stress for educators (client: GEW Baden-Württemberg, Max Traeger Foundation, Hans Böckler Foundation, Federal Association of Company Health Insurance Funds)
  • Work design and stress management for employees with changed performance in the automotive industry (client: VW AG)
  • Stress and stress management in motorsport (client: VW-Motorsport GmbH)
  • Control and information systems in the automotive industry (client: VW AG)
  • Competence and knowledge management in the automotive industry (client: VW AG)
