The Marie-Curie-Gymnasium in Wittenberge was founded in 1895 and is a member of the MINT-EC . It is housed in two buildings, which are both architectural monuments .

history

The grammar school was founded on January 24, 1895 as a higher private boys' school. On April 20, 1900, the secondary school building in Sandfurttrift, which was built for 100,000 Marks in a year of construction, was ready for occupancy. For reasons of cost, the construction of a gymnasium and some classrooms were initially dispensed with. These were not added until 1913. In that year the school was also recognized as a fully fledged Reform Realgymnasium.

In 1927 the first four girls passed their matriculation exams. During the Weimar Republic , the school was called Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium , which was immediately abolished in the Third Reich under Hitler. During the Second World War the school building was used as a hospital and school operations were discontinued.

In 1946 the first matriculation exams took place after the war. On December 2, 1959, the grammar school was renamed an extended high school (EOS). On October 6, 1970, the school was named Karl Marx . On March 18, 1983, a Karl Marx memorial was inaugurated in front of the school building.

After reunification, the complete renovation of the building began in 1991 and the name Karl Marx was dropped again. In 1997 the Gymnasium Wittenberge was named “Marie-Curie-Gymnasium Wittenberge” in honor of the chemist and physicist Marie Curie .

There are 38 teachers teaching in the 2009/2010 school year. There are 288 students in lower secondary level and 149 in upper secondary level .
