Bernd Vogel

Bernd Vogel (born June 2, 1948 - May 21, 2013 ) was a German soccer player. He played for 1. FC Union Berlin in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR .

Career

As a teenager, Vogel played for the East Berlin company sports associations (BSG) Empor Friedrichstadt and Berolina Stralau . In 1965 he was delegated to TSC Berlin as a junior player . In early 1966 he was taken over by 1. FC Union Berlin, which had been formed from the football section of the TSC. Until 1968 Vogel played in the third-rate district league team Union II and was drafted in November 1968 for an 18-month military service.

After the end of his army service, he was used from the 1970/71 season on in the league team of 1. FC Union. He played his first league game on September 9, 1970. In the match on the third match day 1. FC Union - Chemie Leipzig (0-0), he was substituted on in the 78th minute. If he was initially called up irregularly at larger intervals in the 1st team, he made the breakthrough to become a regular player there from the 15th matchday on. However, he did not have a fixed position, but switched between attack and midfield. Between 1973 and 1976, Vogel's senior league career was interrupted for three seasons because Union was relegated to the GDR league. 1974/75 he played for GDR league club VB goods . In the spring of 1975 Vogel returned to 1. FC Union and played two promotion games in the 1975/76 season, but Union could not prevail in this promotion round to the league. In the 1975/76 season he was used in 23 of the 30 GDR league and promotion games played and thus had a significant share in the return to the league. From the beginning of the new league season 1976/77, Vogel was again an integral part of the Union team. He had since been called back to the defense and usually played as a left defender for years to come. The 1979/80 season brought the end of Vogels at 1. FC Union. After he had played all league point games in the first half of the season, he was then only substituted on the 15th matchday for the final quarter of an hour. A month later he was banned from the club for disciplinary reasons.

After 182 competitive games, 142 of them in the league with three goals, Vogel left together with his teammates Michael Paschek and Dieter Wünsch at 1. FC Union in the summer of 1980. All three joined the GDR league club BSG KWO Berlin in the 1980/81 season . During the 1981/82 season, Vogel ended his career as a football player at the age of 33.
