Friedrich Leopold Devens

Friedrich Leopold Devens (born March 11, 1831 at Welheim House ; † September 22, 1894 in Trier ) was a Prussian civil servant and a member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation and the Customs Parliament .

Life

His parents were the district administrator Friedrich Carl Devens (1772–1849) and Franziska Gertrud Antonette née Billmann (1796–1863). Devens attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne together with his brother Prosper Caspar Leonard Devens . He studied law in Göttingen , Heidelberg and Berlin . In Göttingen he became a member of the short-term Corps Saxo-Borussia Göttingen in 1850 . From November 14, 1853 he was auscultator at the district courts in Breslau and Minden and from January 22, 1856 trainee lawyer at the governments in Cologne and Potsdam . On June 17, 1859, he passed the examination as assessor for the higher administrative service. Since 19 June 1859 he was District Administrator of the district food and lived on his property, the former knight's seat House Mountains at Borbeck . From 1868 he was police chief in Cologne.

From October 4, 1867 to 1871, Friedrich Leopold Devens was a member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation for the constituency of Düsseldorf 5 ( Essen ) and the Free Conservative Association . In this capacity he was also a member of the Customs Parliament from 1868.

As a result of the Kulturkampf in 1875, he was transferred to Königsberg . On January 5, 1885, he returned to Trier as a senior government councilor, and on January 18, 1887, he became director of the finance department.

Friedrich Leopold Devens died on September 22nd, 1894 in Trier. The city of Essen named Devens Strasse after him.

He married Maria Johanna Viktoria Bürgers (1841–1913) in Cologne on September 6, 1862. The marriage had two children:
