Paul Runge

Paul Runge (born July 3, 1877 in Berlin , † November 1, 1948 in Magdeburg ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Runge was the son of a cashier and trained as a painter and varnisher after school . He worked as a painter until 1905. From 1905 to 1911 he was a full-time party secretary in Bochum and then moved to Cologne in the same position . After 1914 Runge was temporarily managing director of the Volkshausgesellschaft in Cologne. Before 1914 he was a delegate of social democratic party conferences on several occasions. During the November Revolution , Runge became a chairman of the local workers 'and soldiers' council . From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian State Constitutional Assembly . Runge was also police chief in Cologne from 1919 to 1922 and in Halle an der Saale from 1922 to 1926 . Then he was district administrator of the Quedlinburg district until 1932 . After the Nazis came to power in 1933, he was imprisoned for over six months.
