Walter Hoevel
Walter Friedrich Hoevel (born August 20, 1894 in Wesel , † July 24, 1956 in Cologne ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ), police chief of Cologne and SA leader .
Live and act
After attending elementary school and high school in Wesel, Walter Hoevel took part in the First World War as a war volunteer with the 1st Westphalian Field Artillery Regiment No. 7 from 1914 . From April 1917 until the end of the war he was a member of Field Artillery Regiment No. 255 .
In January 1919 Hoevel joined the voluntary Landesjäger Corps Maerker . In August 1919 he came to the Reichswehr Infantry Regiment 62, which he then had to leave in August 1920 due to the army reduction. He then worked as a businessman in his father's shop. He then switched to RWE as an employee .
On November 1, 1929, Hoevel joined the NSDAP ( membership number 164.473). At the same time he became a member of the SA. In this he was successively appointed Sturmführer and Sturmbannführer before he was entrusted with the leadership of the SA Group Niederrhein on September 9th. After he was officially appointed leader of this group on October 1, 1932, he held this position until July 7, 1933. He then led the SA subgroup Cologne-Aachen until August 31, and finally from September 1, 1933 to December 31, 1936, the SA Brigade 71 (Cologne). After further promotions, he reached his highest rank in the SA on January 30, 1942 when he was promoted to group leader.
From July 31, 1935 to April 1945, Hoevel served (provisional until July 16, 1936, then regular) as police chief in Cologne. During the war he was also the local air raid chief. From January 10, 1940 to February 1, 1942, he was also charged with managing the SA Group Niederrhein on a representative basis; at the same time he was leader of the SA Brigade 71 from January 10, 1940 to May 1945.
From November 1933 to the spring of 1945 Hoevel was a member of the National Socialist Reichstag , in which he represented constituency 20 (Cologne-Aachen).
Hoevel married Huberta Magdalena Hildegund Breuer in Waldbröl in 1949. He died at the age of 61 in a Cologne hospital.
