The Bernese Hound is a variety of the Swiss Hound , which is a breed from Switzerland recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 6, Section 1.2, Standard No. 59 ).

Origin and history

This breed originated in the Bern area , hence its name. The medium to large (43 to 58 cm, 20 kg) dog is close to the Ariégeois .

Also known as the Schwarzschecke , it is closely related to the Hubertus dog in terms of appearance . He is one of the four Swiss hounds ( Chiens courants suisse , Swiss Hounds , Sabueso Suizos ) that have been grouped under one breed standard by the FCI, but are assessed separately at shows. Own, different names for variants of a breed are not uncommon. The same applies to the Belgian Shepherd Dog , for example .

description

This variant of the Swiss hound is 43–58 cm tall and 15–20 kg in weight. The fur is short, coarse and thick in white with black spots or a black saddle. The ears are set far back, very large, heavy, folded and twisted.
