Bernhard Deutsch (* 1959 ) is a German art machine maker and performance artist . He lives in Schwäbisch Hall .

Life

After graduating from the technical grammar school, German studied philosophy and sociology in Tübingen. He works as a freelance artist in Schwäbisch Hall-Steinbach. His atelier Villa Wunderwelt and his machines installed in public spaces shape the cityscape and are among the sights in southwest Germany.

After a large retrospective “35 years of art vending machines” in the summer of 2013 in the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum , Deutsch auctioned 101 of his vending machines at the finissage .

Deutsch is the initiator of the handicraft Christmas market in Schwäbisch Hall. He also appears as a magician and is a puppeteer in the Princess Gisela Theater . As a city ​​guide , he stages the visit of Doctor Faust in Schwäbisch Hall and the life of the executioner Andreas Bürg, based on historical sources from the 16th and 17th centuries .

Bernhard Deutsch's machines perform actions by characters who often speak Swabian against the insertion of coins . The focus is always on the interaction between machine and human. In various works, Deutsch is devoting himself to new genres of machine construction, such as "school tomatoes", "prophetomats", "esoteromats", "frivolomats" and "politomats".
