Bernhard Fiedler
Bernhard Fiedler (born November 23, 1816 in Berlin , † March 28, 1904 in Trieste , Austria-Hungary ) was a German painter . Fiedler studied at the academy in Berlin and was a student of the decorative painter Johann Karl Gerst and the marine painter Wilhelm Krause . After completing his studies, Fiedler went on an extensive study trip through the Alps to Venice in 1843 .
In 1847 he traveled to Northern Italy and Dalmatia on a second study trip. Just like on his first trip, Fiedler brought home many sketches and drawings, which then formed the basis of his oil paintings. Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian , who later became Emperor of Mexico , got to know Fiedler's paintings and supported him in settling in Trieste .
The Sultan of Constantinople , Abdülmecid I , became aware of Fiedler through his Italian landscape paintings , which were highly valued by art critics and collectors alike . In 1853 that fiddler invited us to the Bosporus and commissioned some city views. A drawing by Fiedler by Mehmed Ali Pascha also dates from this period ; The circumstances under which the artist and the officer got to know each other, however, are not recorded.
Back in Trieste, Fiedler undertook a long study trip through Palestine and Egypt , supported by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV . After a year, Fiedler returned to Trieste with numerous studies.
In 1855 Fiedler was invited by the Belgian King Leopold II to accompany him on his journey through Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Greece and Italy. Here too, many sketches and drawings were the artistic result of this trip. In the years 1865 to 1866 Fiedler stayed in Egypt for the third time. After each of his trips, Fiedler organized exhibitions of his works either in his studio or in local galleries, which were a success every time.
The painter Bernhard Fiedler died in Trieste in 1904 at the age of 88.
