Bernhard Heitz

Bernhard Heitz (born March  1, 1942 in Rosendahl , North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany ) is a German-Austrian Old Catholic clergyman. From 1994 to 2007 he was the fifth bishop of the Old Catholic Church in Austria .

biography

After graduating from high school in Bonn , he studied philosophy and theology in Trier and Hennef from 1963 to 1970 . In 1972 he completed his studies in social pedagogy. He then worked from 1972 to 1980 as a scientific teacher and boarding school educator at the Collegium Josephinum Bonn . In 1969 he was in the Roman Catholic Church for ordained priests . Heitz belonged to the Redemptorist order .

After converting to the Old Catholic Church, he was the Old Catholic Pastor in Rosenheim from 1981 to 1994 (since 1991 as Dean ).

After the election by the synod , he was ordained Old Catholic Bishop of Austria on December 18, 1994 in Vienna as the successor to Nikolaus Hummel . His episcopal motto was "You set my feet in a broad place" ( Psalm 31.9  LUT ).

He is born with Monika Heitz. Lamers and has been an Austrian citizen since 1998 .

In June 2007, Heitz announced that he would like to leave office at the end of the year. His successor in the episcopate was Johannes Okoro .
