Johannes Ekemezie Okoro (internationally also John Ifeanyi Okoro ; born August 21, 1949 in Kano , Nigeria ) was the sixth bishop of the Old Catholic Church in Austria from 2008 to 2015 . His official seat was Vienna .

Johannes Okoro studied Catholic theology and psychology in Innsbruck . In 1977 he was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in Vorarlberg . After being in Psychology 1980 PhD , had he returned to Nigeria at the seminary of Enugu and at the Technical University of Port Harcourt ethics teaching and psychology. In 1988 he returned to Austria, where, in addition to his work as Kaplan von Lustenau, he completed a psychotherapist training . Between 1991 and 1995 he was pastor in Dornbirn-Oberdorf , then military chaplain for the Austrian UN troops in Cyprus . In 1991 he opened a psychotherapeutic practice as a psychologist and worked on various studies and teaching assignments focusing on the following topics: "Sexuality in old age", "Overstrained carers at home", "Transcultural psychotherapy", "Suicide prevention". In 1994 he became an Austrian citizen .

In 1999 he converted to the Old Catholic Church and married Edith Schreiner. As an Old Catholic priest he was a pastor for the Old Catholics of Vorarlberg.

In November 2007 he was elected bishop by the Old Catholic Synod of Austria as successor to Bernhard Heitz and consecrated bishop on February 2, 2008 by Archbishop Joris Vercammen with the assistance of Bishops Dušan Hejbal and Fritz-René Müller as well as other bishops of the Utrecht Union of Old Catholics Churches .

The Synod of the Church met from October 23 to 26, 2015. The around 60 members of the synod (2/3 lay, 1/3 clergy) elected the pastor of Krems – St. Pölten Heinz Lederleitner as the seventh bishop of the Austrian Old Catholics. The 66-year-old Johannes Okoro became former bishop (emeritus) on January 1, 2016 and his successor became diocese administrator. The donation of the episcopal ordination to Heinz Lederleitner took place on February 13, 2016 in the Evangelical City Church Vienna .

The motto of Bishop Okoro was: With God all things are possible.
