Bernhard I (Lippe)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nobleman Bernhard I. zur Lippe (* around 1090, † around 1158) was the ruler of the Lippe rulership .

Life

He is one of the earliest representatives of the noble " Herren zur Lippe ". The first documented mention of this family is dated to 1123, in which "Bernhardus de Lippe" is mentioned by name. His territory was around the Premonstratensian monastery founded by him and his brother Hermann in 1139 in Cappel (today part of Lippstadt ), Lippborg Castle, built in 1189 (today in the municipality of Lippetal ) and the settlement on the Lippefurt (today's Nicolaiviertel of Lippstadt) , which is listed in the income register of the Archbishop of Cologne, Philipp I von Heinsberg .

In older works it is often claimed that Bernhard was a military leader of Emperor Lothar III. or the son of Conrad . But this lacks any historical basis.

Since after his death around 1158 the rule was taken over by his brother Hermann, it can be assumed that Bernhard had no descendants entitled to inherit.
