Life

Bernhard Kathan studied at the University of Innsbruck the subjects educational science and psychology . After graduating, Kathan worked on various research projects dealing with questions of everyday research . He founded the Innsbruck Institute for Everyday Research and was editor of the series of publications on qualitative social research . At the end of the eighties he turned increasingly to questions of historical anthropology , occupied himself with the changing understanding of pain and death , with the history of animal love and the organization of perception . Working as an artist for a long time, Kathan withdrew from the gallery and exhibition business around 1990. At the end of the 1990s he founded the Hidden Museum, which he operated until 2018. For years he has dealt with various aspects of totalitarian rule in relation to social, political and technological developments .

position

As a writer, Kathan takes up assembly techniques, mostly using waste materials from scientific projects. He understands his artistic projects, which are often accompanied by intensive research, as field research in which possible results lose importance in favor of the process. He conducts historical, anthropological and medical research on current issues , the results of which are presented in multimedia form. Since September 2019, he has published a series of novels on his website every three weeks with the title Museum of Sexual Piety , in which questions of reproductive medicine are played out.
