Bernhard Kugler , from 1886 by Kugler , (born June 14, 1837 in Berlin , † April 7, 1898 in Tübingen ) was a German historian .

Life

The son of Professor Franz Kugler studied at the universities in Tübingen , Munich and Greifswald . From 1861 he taught as a private lecturer, from 1867 as an associate professor and from 1874 as a full professor of history at the University of Tübingen. In the years 1881-1882 and 1892-1893, Kugler was also dean of the philosophy faculty. His main field of work was the Crusades . But he also dealt with the Württemberg story and put a biography of Emperor William I. before. He was in lively correspondence with Jacob Burckhardt .

In 1886 he was raised to the nobility by being awarded the Knight of Honor Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , which, however, only related to his person and could not be inherited. Her marriage to Else Zoepritz (1845–1921), entered into in 1869, remained childless.
