Bernhard Lenz (* 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German architect and university professor who teaches energy-optimized building and design at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences .

Life

Lenz attended a grammar school in Frankfurt am Main, where he also passed his Abitur . This was followed by studying interior design at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences, as well as studying architecture at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and postgraduate studies at the Institute for Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics in Cologne. Lenz subsequently worked in various national and international planning offices, including a. in the renowned offices of Renzo Piano and Valode & Pistre.

In 2005, after working abroad for several years, he returned to Germany to take a doctoral position in the architecture course at the Technical University of Darmstadt . There he worked in Karl-Heinz Petzinka 's department of design and building technology . His dissertation , which dealt with the development of a new type of alternative building air conditioning system, was supervised by Karl-Heinz Petzinka, Manfred Hegger and Klaus Daniels.

In 2009 he accepted a temporary substitute professorship at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the architecture course in the Faculty of Building Physics and Technical Construction. In 2010 he received a call to the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences - Technology and Economics in the architecture course. He was appointed to the newly established field of energy-optimized planning and construction. Lenz teaches and researches in the areas of sustainable building technology , energy-optimized construction and adaptation to global warming . In 2018, Lenz was awarded a Leodor Lynen Research Fellowship by the Humboldt Foundation . In 2018/2019 he was a visiting professor at the University of Leeds at the Priestley International Center for Climate, where he worked with Piers Forster on adaptation to climate change.
