Bernhard Pattenhausen

Bernhard Nikolaus Philipp Pattenhausen (born July 7, 1855 in Hamburg , † August 25, 1926 in Darmstadt ) was a German geodesist .

Life

As the twelfth child of a merchant family, Pattenhausen studied engineering from 1872 to 1876 at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic . He then worked for Wilhelm Jordan as an assistant for two years . His habilitation took place in 1889. He worked for several years as a surveying engineer at the Ducal Forestry Facility in Braunschweig and in 1893 was appointed Braunschweig Land Surveying Director. In the same year Pattenhausen was appointed full professor of geodesy at the Technical University of Dresden , of which he was also rector in 1907/1908.

From 1894 Pattenhausen also held the office of director of the Mathematical-Physical Salon in Dresden. From 1904 to 1919 he was chairman of the Geography Association in Dresden. In 1906 he was appointed Privy Councilor. The Technical University of Braunschweig awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1926. Pattenhausen died of a stroke on August 25, 1926. His grave is on the Tolkewitz urn grove .
