Bernhard Peters (political scientist)

Bernhard Peters (born November 27, 1949 in Bensberg ; † June 23, 2005 in Amsterdam ) was a German social scientist and professor at the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS) at the University of Bremen .

Life

Bernhard Peters held leading positions in the Communist League of West Germany (KBW) in the 1970s . From autumn 1980 to spring 1982 he was the responsible editor of the party organ, the Communist People's Newspaper (KVZ). In the reorientation phase of the KBW after its division in September 1980, he became the political opponent of Joscha greasers . When he was unable to assert himself with his ideas, he left the KBW disappointed in the spring of 1982.

After leaving the party, he resumed his interrupted philosophy studies at the University of Frankfurt am Main , which he completed in 1991 with a doctorate . After his habilitation in sociology, he taught political theory and the history of ideas at the University of Bremen since November 1993 . Together with Dieter Senghaas and Michael Zürn he founded the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies there .
