Bernhard Wilhelm Schmidt (born January 9, 1909 , † March 24, 2008 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was a German engineer and manager .

Life

A native Werdenfelser Bernhard Schmidt put 1927 in Munich , the High School from before joining a study of engineering at the universities of Munich and Berlin turned, he with the acquisition of the academic degree of a graduate engineer graduated. In 1932 Schmidt took up the position of a meter reader at the Bavarian Electricity Works, and in 1935 he was promoted to assistant director. In the same year, Bernhard Schmidt moved to AEG , for which he worked on major projects in England , Berlin and in South America in the Colombian Guadeloupe as an assembly manager for the construction of a large power plant. The outbreak of the Second World War to Europe returned Bernhard Schmidt took one in the sequence in rank corporal at the western campaign in part.

After the end of the war, Bernhard Schmidt returned to Werdenfelser Land , where he was appointed to the board of directors of Bayerische Zugspitzbahn AG in 1947 , an office he held until he retired in 1975. Schmidt held various honorary positions, including board membership in TÜV Bayern. Bernhard Schmidt - he initiated the construction of the Eibseeseilbahn and the Alpspitzbahn  - was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit for his services to the tourist development of the Werdenfelser Land and in 1975 the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
