Bernhard Schwab

Bernhard Schwab (born July 7, 1960 in Munich ) is a German ministerial official. He is Ministerial Director in the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Technology . Before that he was chief executive officer of the CSU .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1980, Schwab studied economics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Neubiberg near Munich from 1983–1986 and received his doctorate there in 1993. In the same year he entered the Bavarian civil service. Until 2000 he was press spokesman for the Ministry of Economic Affairs (under Minister Otto Wiesheu ), then he moved to the Bavarian State Chancellery as deputy spokesman . From 2003 he was press spokesman, head of the press and media department, planning staff and deputy regional manager at the CSU state management, and from the beginning of 2006 briefly office manager of party chairman Edmund Stoiber . Schwab's successor as CSU press spokesman was Hans Michael Strepp in early May 2006 .

From 2006 to 2009 Schwab was in the Bavarian state representation in Berlin , initially as head of the federal affairs department (successor to Manfred Frühauf), then as head of the state representation. On January 1, 2010 Schwab succeeded Markus Zorzi as managing director of the CSU. Under his leadership, the state management of the CSU carried out the two successful election campaigns for the 2013 state and federal elections. Schwab is considered a close confidante of Alexander Dobrindt , whose modernization course he was primarily responsible for.

In autumn 2013 Schwab moved to the newly created position of second ministerial director in the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, led by Ilse Aigner . Schwab's successor as CSU chief executive was Hans Michael Strepp. Schwab has been the ministry's sole head of office since the end of 2014. One of his main tasks is to implement the energy transition in Bavaria. After the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs fell to the Free Voters after the state elections in 2018, Schwab will move to the board of directors of LfA Förderbank on August 1, 2019.
