Bernhard Strobel
Bernhard Strobel (born March 14, 1982 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer and translator.
life and work
Bernhard Strobel studied German and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Vienna . First publications appeared in the Viennese literary magazine Kolik . In 2007 he published his first volume of short stories, which was followed by two more. His first novel was published in 2018.
In his stories, which are considered minimalist, the author deals with the topics of nuclear families, hidden aggression, communication disorders, the cracks in the seemingly ideal world. Old people also appear repeatedly in the texts and with them problem areas such as old age, death and loneliness.
Bernhard Strobel is the translator for the Norwegian writers Tor Ulven , Jan Kjærstad and Bjarte Breiteig . The collection of short stories, Darkness at the End of the Tor Ulven Tunnel, translated by Strobel, was awarded the Hotlist Prize in 2012 as the best German-language book of the year .
Strobel lives and works in Neusiedl am See in Burgenland .
