Bernhard Vošicky OCist (born August 9, 1950 in Vienna ) is an Austrian priest monk of the Cistercian monastery of Heiligenkreuz , liturgical scholar , preacher and confessor .

Life

Vošicky was born the son of a doctor in Vienna and was baptized in the name of Johann. In 1968 he graduated from high school and then studied theology at the University of Vienna as an alumnus of the Vienna seminary . He decided to wear clothes in the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz and, after a year-long novitiate , made his temporary profession on August 15, 1973 ; at the time of admission he was given the religious name Bernhard . Until January 1975 he attended the Pontifical Liturgical Institute St. Anselm in Rome . He was ordained priest on the Solemnity of Peter and Paul (June 29th) in the Holy Year 1975 in St. Peter's Square by Pope Paul VI. .

After he had obtained his licentiate in liturgical science, he was assistant lecturer to Leopold Lenter for liturgical science at the Philosophical-Theological College Benedict XVI. in Heiligenkreuz. He also worked on the creation of a new Latin breviary for the Cistercian order; it was issued in 1978. In 1983 Vošicky returned to St. Anselm in Rome to study for his doctorate, where he held the defensio of his dissertation on Sacramentum and Mystery with Bernhard von Clairvaux on January 31, 1985 . After completing his doctorate, he came back to Heiligenkreuz, where he has been teaching since July 2, 1985 as professor of liturgical science and sacramental theology, among other things in the basic theological course (biblical studies and moral theology).

In addition to his scientific work, Vošicky was the novice master's socius from 1977 and from April 1978 delegate of the Austrian Cistercian Congregation for the Order's Liturgical Commission. His pastoral work became the focus of his work. From 1988 to 1998 he was pastor in Maria Raisenmarkt , then for one year pastor in Sulz in the Vienna Woods and from 1999 to 2000 (Holy Year) pilgrimage pastor in Heiligenkreuz Abbey. He was pastor from 2000 to 2009 and subprior of the monastery from 2001 to 2004; 2011-2019 he held this office again.

The radio host of the same name, Bernhard Vošicky, is his nephew.
