Berthold Martin (born June 23, 1913 in Eisemroth / Dillkreis , † November 12, 1973 in Gießen ) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1933, Martin, who was Protestant , first studied theology and passed both theological exams. As a member of the Confessing Church he did not get a pastor's position, he went on to study medicine and was also awarded a doctorate in medicine. He did his clinical training in Giessen. He specialized as a psychiatrist and was initially a senior physician at the state hospital in Gießen and later became a department head for the youth and health department of the city of Gießen.

The psychotherapeutic dormitory Berthold-Martin-Haus of the Association for Youth Welfare and Youth Care eV in Gießen has been named after him since 1986 . Martin founded the association in 1951 and was its chairman until his death.

Martin was a founding member of the CDU in Gießen, where he was also a member of the city parliament, parliamentary group chairman and, from 1948, an honorary member of the magistrate as a department head in various offices, most recently in the health department. Martin was a member of the state parliament in Hesse from 1954 to November 27, 1957 . From 1957 until his death he was a member of the German Bundestag , where he represented the constituency of Obertaunuskreis . From 1961 to 1965 he was chairman of the Bundestag committee for cultural policy and journalism. From 1965 to 1972 he was on the board of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group as chairman of the parliamentary group for science and journalism. In 1971/72 and in 1973 he was chairman of the study commissions “Foreign Cultural Policy” of the sixth and seventh German Bundestag. From 1969 until his death he was also chairman of the Hessian regional group within the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. He is considered one of the fathers of the Film Funding Act of December 1967.
