Herbert Moll (born December 13, 1916 ; † February 10, 2002 ), also known as "Bertl", was a German soccer player who played for FC Bayern Munich from 1931 to 1951 and from the end of 1954 to the end of the 1955 season / 56 was active as a coach and accompanied Bayern's relegation and promotion.

Career

Moll joined FC Bayern Munich as a teenager in 1931, together with Jakob Streitle . For the 1st team he made his debut on May 11, 1935 in the 1: 2 defeat in the friendly against SV Waldhof Mannheim . Together with Wilhelm Simetsreiter and Ludwig Goldbrunner, he was part of the team that took part in the Olympic football tournament in Berlin and was eliminated 2-0 by Norway in the quarter-finals; however, he was not allowed to work. Likewise, the jump to the senior national team , to which he was invited for the game against Hungary (2: 3 in Budapest on March 15, 1936), but had to cancel due to a meniscus injury.

He won the national cup organized by the DFB in the 1949/50 season, the cup competition for national associations' national teams - in which contract players were eligible to play for the first time and for the last time - he won with the selection of Bavaria on March 19, 1950 in front of 89,000 spectators in Stuttgart against the selection of the Pfalz with 2: 0.

In the Oberliga seasons, Moll played 151 games and scored three goals. He played his last game on April 29, 1951 (34th matchday) in a 2-0 win at home against SpVgg Fürth .

After the short-lived English coach David Davison was kicked out in November 1950, he looked after the team together with the former players Simon and Konrad Heidkamp until the end of the season.

For the time being, things went downhill with FC Bayern. The coach Georg Knöpfle , who was newly signed at the beginning of the 1954/55 season - 1961 cup winner with SV Werder Bremen and 1964 first Bundesliga champion with 1. FC Köln - was dismissed after the 14th matchday just a few days before Christmas. Bayern now made Bertl Moll the new coach with the task of saving Bayern, who were four points behind the saving 14th place and last place, from the first relegation in the club's history. His former teammate, the national player Jakob "Jakl" Streitle - meanwhile youth coach at the Bavarian Football Association - should support him as far as his obligations at the BFV allowed him. By the end of January, Bayern doubled the number of their wins to six and tripled their draws to three by the end of the season, but things went in the pants and after the 32nd game day Bayern were still last, eleven points behind in 14th place . Streitle himself played seven more times for Bayern.

In the following season Bertl Moll led the team through the 1955/56 season in the II. Division . Bayern finished the season in second place and immediately rose again. For the new season in the league, the Austrian Willibald Hahn became Bayern's new coach and won the 1958 DFB Cup with them in December 1957 . At least initially, Moll stayed with the club as his assistant. After Hahn was given leave of absence from Bayern at the end of February 1958, Moll took over training for Bayern again in March for the last six league games and led the team from twelfth to seventh in the table during this time. For the 1958/69 season, the Austrian Adolf Patek took over the coaching at FC Bayern and finished fourth with them.
