The Bessiburg is an Outbound High Middle Spur castle to the northeast on a mountain ridge in the corridor "Bösenbürgle" the village Merdingen, a modern district of the municipality Merdingen in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg .
history
The castle was probably built in the 13th century by the knightly lords of Merdingen, who were probably feudal men of the Counts of Freiburg as the successors of the Zähringer family . In 1456 grapevines are called "uff Bessiburg ob demsweiff", which is also the first mention of the castle. 1507 speaks of "Vines uff Fronkuntzgen is called Besebürglin" and 1524 of "vines uff dem besen berglin ob dem vmschweiff", so after 1456 the castle was probably already destroyed. Today the castle site is used as a vineyard .
