Betty Farbstein (born January 30, 1873 in Chortkiv , Galicia , today Ukraine , † June 20, 1938 in Kilchberg ZH ) was an early Swiss doctor and suffragette.

Life

Her maiden name was Betty Ostersetzer, and she received her doctorate in medicine in Zurich in the spring of 1900 , where she also passed the state examination. She was the first wife of the politician David Farbstein . With him she had the sons Horace (called Harry) and Gustav Imanuel (* 1906). The couple divorced by mutual agreement, with David Farbstein undertaking to repay both the loan received from his father-in-law and Betty Farbstein's not inconsiderable debts. While the first-born son died early, the second-born emigrated to India in 1921, where he survived the Holocaust as the father of two daughters. His daughter Dina Wyler was a well-known artist. In her second marriage she was married to the German Erich Karl Stoboy. Like Paulette Brupbacher , she was not only involved in her medical profession, but also in the women's issue: "The socialization of housework remains an abstract demand. Paulette Brupbacher and Betty Farbstein Ostersetzer are two of the few women who, with their criticism in the private sphere, with the relationships between men and women. The two doctors are also committed to free contraception and deadlines. Their lectures on contraception and hygiene issues in Aussersihl attract a large number of women. "

In 1932, the originally committed doctor and social democrat Farbstein moved to live with her older son in Tel Aviv-Jaffa , where she lived until 1937.
