Betty Favre

Berthe "Betty" Favre , née Berthe Poschung , (* 1918 in Abländschen ; † 1977 ) was a Swiss mountaineer , photographer and author .

Life

Betty Favre, née Poschung, grew up in modest circumstances in Château-d'Oex . In the 1940s and 1950s she formed a rope team with her husband Ernest and Louis-Maurice Henchoz , who managed the most difficult climbing routes and first ascents, especially in the local Gastlosen , but also in the granite of the Bergell and Gotthard area .

Betty was the first to climb difficult routes, photographed and wrote articles in the alpine press about her undertakings, for example the first women’s ascent of the northeast face of Piz Badile .

She was the author and co-editor of books about the Gastlosen and the Pierreuse , the largest nature reserve in western Switzerland .
