It was created on January 1, 1971 through the amalgamation of the previously independent communities of Betzweiler and Wilder and on June 30, 2006 had 1,417 inhabitants. geography

Geographical location

The community was a state-approved resort and was 536 to 700 meters above sea level in the Heimbachtal in the Middle Black Forest .

The “ Heimbachaue ” nature reserve is located in the middle between the districts . Numerous plants and animals threatened with extinction have found protection and habitat here. Adjacent to this nature reserve is the "Historische Heimbachmühle", a stately half-timbered house which was of great importance as a mill. The “Lower Mill”, as the “Historic Heimbach Mill” is still often called today, was first mentioned in writing around 1250. In 1978 Klaus Körber acquired the mill and completely renovated the building. The Heimbachmühle has served as a hotel inn since then.

Community structure

The former municipality consisted of the districts of Betzweiler and Wilder .

The community has been negotiating since 2005 about integration into the neighboring community of Loßburg . After the municipal councils of both municipalities voted in favor of the merger, the citizens of Betzweiler-Wlassung voted in a referendum on March 26, 2006 with 65.5% of the votes cast, that is 52.76% of those entitled to vote, for integration into the neighboring town Lossburg votes. The integration was implemented on January 1, 2007.

Churches

The parish church of Betzweiler

In the district of Betzweiler there is one of the few expressionist church buildings in Germany and next to the Tabor Church by Albert Otto Linder in Freudenstadt (1930/31) the only expressionist sacred building in the Freudenstadt district. The Protestant parish church is a cultural monument and was inaugurated with a ceremony on October 23, 1927. Due to the hillside location, the usual east facing of the nave ( ex oriente lux ) is shifted against the north-south orientation. The architects of the church (W. Klatte and R. Weigle from Stuttgart-Degerloch) built a "sister model" at the same time in Gerhausen (Deanery Blaubeuren).

The chapel dedicated to Saint George, today's "Old Church", dates from the 15th century. In the Middle Ages, Betzweiler belonged to the Alpirsbach monastery and was also looked after as a branch from Dornhan . This can still be seen today from the old field name Kilchberg (= Kirchberg). During this time, the Betzweiler people went to church in Dornhan via this Kilchberg.

Others

The community received the State Nature Prize for the unique training apiary in Betzweiler.
