history

The center of the protected area is a former fish pond. The facility was renatured by tearing down the concrete walls of the pools and creating two ponds with shallow water zones and irregular banks. A third pond was created in the south of the area to keep visitors to the nature reserve away from the core zone.

Protection purpose

According to the regulation, the protective purpose is

  • to preserve the landscape of the middle Heimbach valley in its natural form and equipment;
  • to secure and develop wetlands such as ponds, ponds, watercourses, reed beds and wet meadows;
  • reintegrate the artificial waters as essential habitats;
  • to preserve and care for the wet and dry meadows with regard to their biodiversity;
  • to improve and enrich the partially structurally poor and monotonous woody stands;
  • those adapted to the different locations, e.g. To preserve and sustainably promote endangered plant and animal species.

Flora and fauna

There are considerable populations of the large rattlespot , broadleaf and lesser orchid in the area . Kingfisher and water bat can be seen in the ponds .
