Osterhalde is a nature reserve designated by the Karlsruhe Regional Council of December 16, 1994 with the number 2.186.
location
The nature reserve is located in the Obere Gäue natural area . It is located on a southern slope of the Neckar valley between the town of Horb am Neckar and the Horber district of Ihlingen . It is part of the FFH area No. 7517-341 Horber Neckar slopes .
Protection purpose
The purpose of protection is diverse. The Protected Area Ordinance lists the following points:
- the preservation and promotion of the semi-dry grasslands that are to come, rich in flowers and species, on all larger open areas of the southern part of the "Osterhalde";
- the maintenance and promotion of the partially extensively used meadows with orchards as an ecologically valuable habitat and retreat for a species-rich insect, small mammal and avifauna;
- the preservation and promotion of the heat-loving fringing communities along the forest edges and the hedges and woodlands;
- the preservation, promotion and restoration of the stone bars and scree slopes created by earlier economic forms as living and retreat areas for specialized plant and animal communities;
- the preservation, care and promotion of hedges and field trees as cultural and historical landscape elements and as living, retreat and food space for a differentiated fauna and flora;
- the maintenance and promotion of the south-exposed forest, which essentially corresponds to the potential natural vegetation, as an example of the original forest cover in the Neckar valley near Horb;
- the preservation of the arable land in the middle of the Osterhaldenhang as a habitat for typical field edge vegetation and as a retreat and wintering area for a corresponding insect fauna.
Flora and fauna
On the limestone grasslands of the open areas of the Osterhaldenhang, the helmet orchid , the fly ragwort , the great two-leaf gentian , the cross gentian and the common fringe gentian thrive . In the field of breeds backed Shrike and be of the 47 living here butterfly species representative of the Small Kingfisher and Hamearis Lucina called.
