Große Tannen is a nature reserve designated by ordinance of March 23, 1939 with the number 2.026 and also a protected forest area of ​​the same name .

location

The protected area is located around 500 meters north of the Kälberbronn district of the Pfalzgrafenweiler community . It is located in the Black Forest-Randplatten natural area and is part of the FFH area no. 7516-341 Freudenstadt Heckengäu .

description

The fir trees found in the area reach heights of up to 51 m, diameters at chest height of over 1.40 m and volumes of over 40 m³. The beech trees also acquire considerable dimensions. The trees are 250-300 years old and the firs are among the oldest and strongest in Germany. According to the appraisal, most of the giant trees were felled in the 1920s, but the area was still considered worthy of protection.

The fir-beech forest society, which has become rare in the Black Forest, is to be protected.

Spell forest

The protected forest, also designated under the name Große Tannen , by ordinance of the Freiburg Forestry Directorate of October 10, 1989, has a size of 15.26 hectares. It has the protected area number 100051. The protective purpose of the Bannwald is to secure the uninfluenced development of a beech-fir forest ecosystem in the black forest with its animal and plant species and to ensure the scientific observation of the development. The spell forest is almost congruent with the nature reserve.
