The Heimbach is an almost 25 km long river off the eastern edge of the central Black Forest in the Baden-Württemberg districts of Rottweil and Freudenstadt , which flows in the Dornhan district of Leinstetten after a north-north-east running from the right into the Glatt, which flows roughly south-south-east here .

geography

course

The Heimbach rises southwest of the Schramberg district of Waldmössingen in the Rottweil district and then flows in a largely northerly direction through the municipality of Fluorn-Winzeln , past the Alpirsbach district of Römlinsdorf and the Dornhan district of Busenweiler . Then he crosses the area of the municipality of Loßburg . After the district of Waele, the small river changes the direction of flow towards the east to the Glatt. It now flows in an arc around the Sterneck district through a wooded valley, feeds a small dam below Sterneck, which is somewhat hidden in the forest, and then flows into the Glatt in the Leinstetten district of Dornhan .

Catchment area

The Heimbach drains 77.4 km² on the eastern edge of the Black Forest in a north-northeast direction to the Neckar tributary Glatt , which flows almost in the opposite direction . The catchment areas of the following rivers border in turn:

  • in the north that of the short Lauter to the upward Glatt
  • in the east first that of the likewise short Zitzmannsbrunnenbach , further south that of the Neckar
  • in the south the Eschach drains into the Neckar far above the Glatt
  • in the west the upper Kinzig runs almost against the direction of the Heimbach in front of its large arch.

nature

Natural river bed (right) and branch (left) in the Heimbachaue

The Heimbachtal is a protected landscape area . The Heimbachaue , a 10 hectare wetland in Betzweiler-Wahmen , has been designated as a nature reserve since 1985 . The course of the river here is natural with a natural branch. In the alluvial forest there are also no longer used fish ponds. The numerous insects provide food for the kingfisher and the bat , among others . The large rattling pot , which is otherwise rare in the region, also grows here .

Hydropower

Several mills were and are operated along the Heimbach, for example in Fluorn-Winzeln. The historic oil mill is located on the Heimbach in Betzweiler.

In addition to the inlet from the Heimbach, water from the upper Glatttal is fed into the Heimbach Dam via a tunnel system. The dammed up water runs through another tunnel system for the operation of a hydropower plant to Bettenhausen .
