The Movement for Development and Pan-Africanism ( French : Mouvement pour le Développement et le Panafricanisme-Alkawali , abbreviation: MDP-Alkawali ) is a political party in Niger .

history

The pan-African oriented MDP-Alkawali was founded in 1992 under the leadership of Maï Manga Boukar , a Kanuri from the Diffa region . On January 27, 1996, Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara sat at the head of the state through a coup d'état and was elected president in the controversial presidential elections on July 7 and 8, 1996 . The parliamentary elections on November 23, 1996 were boycotted by most of the major opposition parties. The MDP-Alkawali, however, supported the presidential party UNIRD and won one of 83 seats in the National Assembly . Maï Manga Boukar became Minister of Mines and Industry. Since the killing of Baré Maïnassara in a coup d'état in 1999 and the subsequent free parliamentary elections in 1999 , the MDP-Alkawali is no longer represented in the National Assembly. In the 2011 presidential elections, the party supported the MNSD Nassara candidate Seini Oumarou , who had to admit defeat to Mahamadou Issoufou of the PNDS Tarayya .
