Dixville Notch is a village in the US state of New Hampshire with 12 residents. It is best known for its early announcement of the local results of the US presidential election shortly after midnight.

The place is about 30 km from the Canadian border and lives mainly from tourism.

elections

The few inhabitants of the place traditionally vote at midnight, so that shortly afterwards the election can be closed and the result can be counted and published. The polling station is located in the Balsam Grand Resort Hotel . For the election in 2012 it was renovated, so that a ski lodge about two kilometers away had to be switched to. The hotel closure associated with the renovation also explains the low number of voters, as many looked for work elsewhere and moved away. For the first time in 2012 there was an equal share of the votes among the favorites.
