Beyond Enemy Lines is a training film by the Swiss Army about the role of a parachute scout . The DVD contains a documentary section that is intended to inform potential applicants about the parachute reconnaissance training course with documentary film clips. A short film (28 min.) Then shows a fictional military reconnaissance mission in which two teams infiltrate a factory site. The feature film shows fighting and injuries.

action

A briefing takes place at the beginning . In this "ELIANE" is addressed. This is a facility across the Swiss border. Two teams of four are put together. "Para Uno" and "Para Due". The task of "Para Uno" is to observe the factory premises so that "Para Due" knows about the activities on the premises as they advance. "Uno" is dropped off with a Super Puma, advances to the observation zone and takes position there. "Para Due" reaches the target area by parachute. These begin with the undiscovered advance on the terrain, enemy contact is to be avoided. The teams finally discover "ELIANE", which are anti-aircraft missiles . Both teams are now starting to withdraw, still undetected. When crossing a river, however, "Para Due" comes under fire. A Super Puma then picks up the team in the "Zulu" retreat. "Para Uno" is picked up without any further problems.

background

The DVD with documentary and feature film was produced by the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS); the production costs were SFr. 120,000. According to a spokeswoman for the DDPS, the DVD should "arouse potential candidates' interest in parachute reconnaissance and motivate them to apply".

criticism

The DVD received a "Master of Excellence" award in the program category from Medienreport-Verlag. The feature film also received the "Award for Best Performance" in the directing category. Critics do not complain about the quality of the workmanship of the film, but about the fact that it is action-heavy and financed with taxpayers' money. In the free newspaper 20 Minuten, the national councilors Boris Banga (SP) and Ulrich Schlüer (SVP) are quoted with the following statements: “This is stupid childishness of the VBS” and “This is unacceptable”. The National Councilor Josef Lang ( alternative ) says: "It is untenable to spend so much money to glorify military violence".
