Kimpolung District
The district of Kimpolung ( Romanian : Câmpulung ; Ruthenian : Kimpolung ) was a political district in the Duchy of Bukovina . The district comprised areas in the southwest of Bukovina. The seat of the district administration was the municipality of Kimpolung ( Câmpulung ). The area was added to Romania after the First World War and is now part of the Romanian part of Bucovina.
history
The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created around 1868 in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration. The Kimpolung District was formed in 1868 from the judicial districts of Kimpolung ( Câmpulung ) and Dorna ( Vatra Dornei ). In 1903, the creation of the judicial district of Stulpikany was also decreed in the area of the Kimpolung district , which was formed from part of the municipalities of the Kimpolung district. However, it took until September 1, 1910 for this creation to take effect.
In 1869 there were 35,558 people in the Kimpolung District, and by 1900 the population had increased to 55,688. In 1900, 28,205 of the population stated Romanian (50.6%) as a colloquial language, 16,843 people spoke German (30.2%), 7,342 Ruthenian (13.2%) and 1,463 another language (2.6%). In 1900 the district covered an area of 2349.48 km² as well as two judicial districts with a total of 29 communities and six manor areas .
