Storozynetz district
The Storozynetz district ( Romanian : Storojineţ ; Ruthenian : Storożynec ) was a political district in the Duchy of Bukovina in Austria-Hungary . The district comprised areas in the central area of Bukowina southwest of Chernivtsi . The seat of the district administration was the municipality of Storozynetz ( Storojineţ or Storożynec ). The area was added to Romania after the First World War and is now part of the Ukrainian part of Bukovina ( Chernivtsi Oblast ).
history
The modern political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created around 1868 in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration. The Storozynetz district was formed in 1868 from the judicial districts Storozynetz and Stanestie ( Stăneşti and Staniwci ). However, the judicial district Stanestie was separated from the district Storozynetz on October 1, 1903 and merged with the judicial district Waschkoutz am Czeremosch to form the district Waschkoutz am Czeremosch .
The population of the Storozynetz district was 54,344 in 1869. By 1900 it rose to 80,100. In 1900, 31,308 said Ruthenian (39.1%) was the colloquial language, 28,030 spoke Romanian (35.0%), 15,219 German (19.0%) and 2,435 another language (3.0%).
