Suczawa district
The Suczawa district ( Romanian : Suceava ; Ruthenian : Suczawa ) was a political district in the Duchy of Bukovina . The district comprised areas in the extreme southeast of the Bukovina. The seat of the district administration was the municipality of Suczawa ( Suceava ). The area was added to Romania after the First World War and is now part of the Romanian part of the Bukovina ( Suceava district ).
history
The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created around 1868 in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration. Suczawa District was formed in 1868 from the Suczawa ( Suceava ) and Gurahumora ( Gura Humorului ) judicial districts . On October 1, 1893, the Gurahumora judicial district was separated and merged with the Solka judicial district from the Radautz district to form the Gurahumora district .
In 1869 there were 69,023 people in Suczawa District. By 1900, the population fell to 62,447 people due to the separation of a judicial district. In 1900, 37,252 of the population stated Romanian (59.6%) as a colloquial language, 11,549 people spoke German (18.5%), 11,269 Ruthenian (18.0%) and 1,870 another language (3.0%). In 1900 the district covered an area of 569.32 km² and a judicial district with 41 communities and 27 manor areas .
