The judicial district Dorna Watra (also: Dorna ; Romanian : Vatra Dornei ; Ruthenian : Dornawatra ) was a judicial district in the Duchy of Bucovina which was subordinate to the Dorna Watra District Court . The judicial district comprised areas in the southwest of Bukovina or in present-day Romania . After the First World War Austria had to cede the entire judicial district to Romania, after the Second World War the area remained with Romania. It is now part of Suceava County .

In the course of the reorganization of the judiciary in the Austrian Empire, the general principles of the court system in the crown lands were approved by Emperor Franz Joseph I in June 1849 . Justice Minister Anton von Schmerling then had plans to organize the judiciary in Bukovina drawn up, which the emperor also approved by ordinance on November 6, 1850. The reorganization went hand in hand with the abolition of the princely courts as well as the patrimonial courts , with Schmerling originally planning the establishment of 17 district courts and the Bukovina to be subordinated to the Stanislau Higher Regional Court . In the end, the authorities created only 15 district courts, which were assigned to the Chernivtsi Regional Court and the Lemberg Higher Regional Court . The establishment of the mixed district offices, which had to look after the administration as well as the judiciary, finally came into effect on September 29, 1855. The judicial district Dorna Watra consisted of the communities Dorna Watra with Dorna kilie, Dorna pedzumalei, Dorna kandreny with Koszna, Jakobeny, Kirlibaba (Kimpolunger portion), Pojana stampi with Pilugani and Czokanesti and was subordinate to the investigative court for crimes and offenses in Suczawa. On August 1, 1860, the faction of Kirlibaba in the Radautz district was also assigned to the Dorna Watra judicial district.

In the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, the judicial district Dorna Watra formed from 1868 together with the judicial district Kimpolung the district Kimpolung . In 1903, the creation of the judicial district of Stulpikany was also decreed in the area of ​​the Kimpolung district , which was formed from part of the municipalities of the Kimpolung district. However, it took until September 1, 1910 for this creation to take effect.

The Dorna Watra Judicial District had a population of 6,940 in 1854, covering an area of ​​12.0 square miles. In 1869 the judicial district housed a population of 9,411 people, by 1900 the population had increased to 14,406 people. In 1900, 7,480 of the population stated Romanian (51.9%) as a colloquial language, 5,220 people spoke German (36.2%), 446 Ruthenian (3.1%) and 319 another language (2.2%). In 1900 the judicial district covered an area of ​​652.84 km² and six municipalities and two manor areas .
