The judicial district Kimpolung ( Romanian : Câmpulung ; Ruthenian : Kimpolung ) was a judicial district in the Duchy of Bucovina, which was subordinate to the Kimpolung District Court . The judicial district comprised areas in the southwest of Bukovina or in present-day Romania . After the First World War Austria had to cede the entire judicial district to Romania, after the Second World War the area remained with Romania. It is now part of Suceava County .

In the course of the reorganization of the judiciary in the Austrian Empire, the general principles of the court system in the crown lands were approved by Emperor Franz Joseph I in June 1849 . Justice Minister Anton von Schmerling then had plans to organize the judiciary in Bukovina drawn up, which the emperor also approved by ordinance on November 6, 1850. The reorganization went hand in hand with the abolition of the princely courts as well as the patrimonial courts , with Schmerling originally planning the establishment of 17 district courts and the Bukovina to be subordinated to the Stanislau Higher Regional Court . In the end, the authorities created only 15 district courts, which were assigned to the Chernivtsi Regional Court and the Lemberg Higher Regional Court . The establishment of the mixed district offices, which had to look after the administration as well as the judiciary, finally became officially effective on September 29, 1855, whereby the judicial district Kimpolung from the communities Kimpolung with Briza, Gropanam Formosa, Fundul moldowi with Luisenthal, Poschorita, Russ pe boul with Freudenthal and Watra moldawitza, Russ moldawitza with Czamora and Ardziel, Sadowa (Ulma), Waleputna and Wama with Eisenau. The Kimpolung District Court was subordinate to the Crimes and Offenses Investigative Court in Suczawa. In the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, the judicial district Kimpolung formed from 1868 together with the judicial district Dorna Watra the district Kimpolung . As of March 28, 1870, as part of a reform of the judicial districts, there were extensive territorial changes between the judicial districts of the Bukowina, with the judicial district Kimpolung through the reform to the communities Bukschoja, Dorothea with Plotnitza, Dzemine, Frasin, Negrilasa, Ostra, Schwarzthal, Slatiora and Skulpikani and its associated manor was expanded from the Gurahumora judicial district .

In 1903 the creation of the judicial district of Stulpikany was also decreed in the area of ​​the Kimpolung district , which was formed from the municipalities of Bukschoja, Dorothea-Plotonitza, Dzemine, Frassin, Negrilasa, Ostra, Schwarzthal, Slavtiora and Skulpikany from the judicial district of Kimpolung. Before this creation became effective, it was not until September 1, 1910. The Kimpolung Judicial District had a population of 15,180 in 1854 in an area of ​​24.0 square miles. In 1869 the judicial district housed a population of 26,147 people, by 1900 the population had increased to 41,282 people. In 1900, 20,725 of the population stated Romanian (51.9%) as a colloquial language, 11,623 people spoke German (36.2%), 6,896 Ruthenian (3.1%) and 1,144 another language (2.2%). In 1900 the judicial district covered an area of ​​1696.64 km² and 23 communities and four manor areas .
