The judicial district Seletin ( Romanian Seletin ; Ruthenian : Seletyn ) was a judicial district in the Duchy of Bukovina subordinate to the District Court of Seletin . The judicial district comprised areas in the west of Bukovina or in today's Romania . The area was added to Romania after the First World War and was divided between Romania and the Ukraine (or the Soviet Union ) after the Second World War .

history

In the course of the reorganization of the judiciary in the Austrian Empire, the general principles of the court system in the crown lands were approved by Emperor Franz Joseph I in June 1849 . Justice Minister Anton von Schmerling then had plans to organize the judiciary in Bukovina drawn up, which the emperor also approved by ordinance on November 6, 1850. The reorganization went hand in hand with the abolition of the princely courts as well as the patrimonial courts , with Schmerling originally planning the establishment of 17 district courts and the Bukovina to be subordinated to the Stanislau Higher Regional Court . In the end, the authorities created only 15 district courts, which were assigned to the Chernivtsi Regional Court and the Lemberg Higher Regional Court . The area of the later judicial district of Seletin initially belonged to the judicial district of Radautz . In 1886 the three municipalities of Straza, Schipot and Seletin including manors were separated from the Radautz judicial district and merged to form the Seletin judicial district. The ordinance came into effect on June 1, 1888. Together with the judicial districts of Radautz and Solka , the judicial district of Seletin subsequently formed the district of Radautz . On October 1, 1893, however, the Solka judicial district was detached from the Radautz district and combined with the Gurahumora judicial district to form the Gurahumora district , whereupon the Radautz district consisted only of the two judicial districts Seletin and Radautz.

The judicial district housed 9,657 inhabitants in 1900, compared to 12,137 in 1900. Of the 1900 population, 5,890 stated Ruthenian (88.2%) as the colloquial language, 3,394 people spoke Romanian (9.5%), 2,324 German (0.1%) and 286 one other language (2.1%). In 1900 the judicial district covered an area of 962.29 km² and three municipalities and two estate areas .
