The Vorderland district was an administrative unit of the Swiss canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .
It was founded in 1877 by dividing the Vor der Sitter district into two parts, Mittelland and Vorderland. In 1995 the districts were formally abolished, but the regional structure lives on as a landscape name.
