Bhanumati Devi
Bhanumati Devi (* 15. May 1934 in Burma ; † 4. January 2013 in Puri , Odisha ) was an Indian actress of Oriya film and -Theaters.
Life
Bhanumati was born in Burma, where she gained her first theater experience at the age of seven. During the Second World War, she moved with her parents to their home in Orissa . In Cuttack , she was part of the Annapurna Theater ensemble for four decades and achieved renown with the plays Napahu Rati Namaru Pati and Lakhye Hira . For her acting performances at the theater she was honored by the government of the state of Orissa with the Jaydev Samman award.
Her career in Oriya film began in 1953. Bhanumati's most famous films include Mrinal Sens's literary adaptation, Matir Manisha (1966), in which she appeared alongside Prashanta Nanda and Jharana Das . She also played alongside Nanda in Amit Moitras Adina Megha (1970) and Byomkesh Tripathis Mamata (1975). She was often seen in Nitai Palit 's films.
