Bibra Cross

The Bibrakreuz im Harz is a monument in the form of a stone cross in honor of Baron Helmuth von Bibra (1895-1914) in the Bodetal near Thale in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt .

Geographical location

The Bibrakreuz is located in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . It is about 3 km southwest of Thale above the Bodetal about 370 m (as the crow flies ) south of the junction of the spur road leading to the Roßtrappe from the intersecting district roads  1350 and 2365, which connect Thale in the northeast and Treseburg in the southwest. From at about 355  m above sea level. At the cross located at the NHN , the landscape slopes south towards the Bode , which lies below the cross at a height of around 225  m .

Helmuth von Bibra

Helmuth von Bibra was born on September 1, 1895 in Thale and died in the First World War at the age of 19 on October 10, 1914 in Nowo Alexandrija (today's Puławy , Lublin Voivodeship, Poland).

Prince's view

South of the Bodetal, opposite the Bibrakreuz , is the Prinzensicht viewpoint ( 418  m ), from which the view not only falls into the Bodetal, but also over to the cross.
