Bickwil ( Swiss German : Bickwiil ) is a district of the political municipality Obfelden in the Affoltern district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .
Together with Ober- and Unterlunnern , Wolsen and Toussen , the former civil parish was merged in 1847 , after splitting off from Ottenbach , to form the unitary parish of Obfelden.

Bickwil is located in the Reuss Valley in Zurich in the municipality of Obfelden. The air distance to Zurich is about 14 kilometers and to Zug 13 kilometers. The district borders in the north on Zwillikon , in the east on Affoltern am Albis, in the south-east on the Toussen, in the south-west on Oberlunnern and in the west on Ottenbach.
Due to the building boom of the last few decades, Bickwil has grown strongly with Toussen . In the north of Bickwil is the adjacent Isenberg (532 m above sea level) and the MyStop motorway service station , which opened in 2009, is in the east.
Bickwil is connected to Affoltern am Albis and the Zurich Wiedikon train station via the post bus line 215, which runs every half hour on weekdays and every half hour / hour on weekends .
Bickwil does not have its own postcode. According to the Federal Building and Housing Register GWR, the houses in Bickwil have the postal address 8912 Obfelden.
history
The first traces of settlement in Bickwil can be traced back to the Stone Age . As in the neighboring villages, they indicate a settlement group of Celtic descent. The settlement name Bickwil (from the old high German hamlet of Picho / Bicko / Bicco ) was first mentioned in writing around 1150 as Biggwile . Later in 1256 as Bickewilere , 1256 as Pikwile and in 1454 for the first time as Bickwil . Alemannic settlement groups settled in the 7th century AD .
Bickwil has been part of the Ottenbach church since the High Middle Ages . The civil parish was subordinate to the Maschwanderamt and the Freiamt Affoltern .
The five former civil parishes of Oberlunnern, Unterlunnern, Wolsen, Toussen and Bickwil , which belonged to the political municipality of Ottenbach, were known by the collective name ob dem Felde . The population could never really identify with Ottenbach. In 1837 the civil parishes made an attempt to split off and found their own political parish. Finally, on February 15, 1847, the five civil parishes separated from Ottenbach and founded the community of Obfelden.
Modern times
Today the industrial area is in the south of the district. In addition to various shopping opportunities in the Reusscenter, Landi Obfelden is located in the north. In July 2017, a laser tag system was opened on Bachstrasse . There are also so-called escape rooms; In these you have to solve puzzles with the help of intelligence, intuition, logical thinking and instincts in order to escape the room.
Motorway slip road Obfelden / Ottenbach
The building department of the canton of Zurich is planning a motorway feeder for the A4, which will relieve the communities of Obfelden and Ottenbach from heavy through traffic. The old village center of Bickwil is badly affected by the construction. A tunnel is planned that will go under the village center. The aim is to relieve the district from the heavy through traffic of Muristrasse. The tunnel will be built at the height between Sennhüttenstrasse and the property at Wigartenweg 7 . Some old buildings have to give way to the project because a noise barrier will also be built. The Postbus stop Obfelden, Bickwil will be moved to Zwillikerstrasse .
