Unterlunnern (Swiss German: Underlunnere ) is a district of the political municipality Obfelden in the Affoltern district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland . The former civil parishes of Unterlunnern, Oberlunnern, Wolsen, Toussen and Bickwil split off from Ottenbach in 1847 and merged to form the new municipality of Obfelden. The post bus lines 212 and 217 go through the district and provide a connection between Affoltern am Albis and Ottenbach or Muri AG every half hour .

geography

Today the districts of Unterlunnern and Oberlunnern have grown together. The factory service and the wastewater treatment plant (ARA) are located in the north-west.

Unterlunnern is located in the Reuss Valley in Zurich in the municipality of Obfelden on the border with the Canton of Aargau . The air distance to Zurich is around 16 kilometers. Only about 12.5 kilometers to train .

It borders in the north on Ottenbach, in the east on the district Oberlunnern, in the south on Maschwanden and in the west on the hamlet of Rickenbach AG.

history

The first traces of settlement in Unterlunnern can be traced back to the Stone Age . Finds suggest a Neolithic settlement. Bronze bangles from the 7th century BC BC indicate an early Celtic settlement. At the time of the Romans there was a small vicus with central buildings and probably with harbor facilities on the Reuss below today's hamlet Unterlunnern . The settlement name Lunnern (perhaps of Celtic-Latin Londinaria ) witness to a cultural contact between Romansh -speaking populations and extends. Colonizing from the 7th century. N. Chr Alemanni .

So far, excavations of the Roman ruins have only taken place in the form of random samples. The gold treasure was discovered by Unterlunnern as early as 1741: The hoard from the end of the 3rd century AD is in the Swiss National Museum in the city of Zurich and consists of sun wheel amulets, necklaces and snake bracelets, among other things .

Lunnern was first mentioned in writing around 1150 as Lundinaurum . Since the High Middle Ages , Unterlunnern has been part of the church of Ottenbach. The hamlet was legally subordinate to the Maschwanderamt and the Freiamt Affoltern . Important historical events were the Old Zurich War 1440–1450, the creation of the new administrative unit Landvogtei Knonau in 1507 and the introduction of the Zurich Reformation in 1523.

In the 19th century, the five civil parishes of Oberlunnern, Unterlunnern, Wolsen, Toussen and Bickwil belonged to the political municipality of Ottenbach and were known by the collective name ob dem Felde . However, the population of the five parishes could never identify with their neighbors. Since 1830, they made various attempts to split off from Ottenbach. On February 15, 1847, the five civil parishes with their then 829 inhabitants separated from Ottenbach and founded the new unified community of Obfelden. Only six months after the founding of the community, on November 12, 1847, as part of the Sonderbund War , the battle at Lunnern took place.

The beginning of industrialization began in 1837 when a cotton weaving mill was founded in the neighboring village of Oberlunnern and was converted into a silk weaving mill in 1840.
